Planning to care for your ill sibling

Unread postby Sophia » 24 Aug 2016

Some sisters and brothers of persons with serious mental illness have seen their parents providing housing, financial and other support to their sister or brother. Often parents expect that when they are no longer able to provide this care, that their other children will take over caregiving.

Have you thought about this issue? Are you in this situation? What planning or ideas do you have about what happens next?

Some supported housing exists for persons with serious mental illness, as an option. Disability trusts are also an option to help provide ongoing financial support for persons who may not be well enough to manage money.

What have your experiences been?
