Referral Resources for Family Members

Unread postby AndrewBCSS » 23 Nov 2016

The following is a listing of some common resources for family members that you may find helpful to have at hand.

Information and Questions about Mental Illness
The BC Schizophrenia Society has a free 10-week educational series on major mental illness for family members, offered in locations throughout BC, normally once or twice a year. The program is facilitated by trained peer facilitators or BCSS staff. This program also has a first nations adapted version, developed by and in collaboration with BC first nations. System Navigation Assistance
  • HealthLinkBC has health system navigators who can help family members find services for themselves or their loved ones. The navigators have access to a database of services provided by the health authorities and community groups. They can be reached by calling 811.
  • The BC Schizophrenia Society employs family educators in many regions of BC whose role is to speak with family members, educate them about the mental health system and help them access resources for themselves and their families. Families can connect with the family educator nearest them at 604-270-7841 or toll free at 1-888-888-0029 or can email them via this link.
  • System navigation videos for parents of children or youth with a mental disorder.
